Sections

Summary

Sections (sometimes called Topics) are seperate areas of a course – they’re useful if you want to group content together into related sections: General info, Assessment, Labs, Tutorials, Lectures etc.

How to create a section

  1. Login to Moodle and navigate to the course where you want to add a section.
  2. Make sure editing is turned on (Edit Mode – top right hand corner).
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and locate the link Add section below the final section – click it.
  4. A new Section/Topic will be added to the bottom of the page – click the pencil icon next to its name to rename it.
  5. Click the ⋮ icon in the top right hand corner of the new section to change its settings (Edit topic).

How to hide a section

  1. Make sure editing is turned on in your course (Edit Mode – top right hand corner).
  2. Find the section you want to hide.
  3. Click the ⋮ icon in the top right hand corner and select Hide Section from menu that appears.
  4. To show the section again repeat step 3 and select Show Section. 

How to create a sub-section

  1. Make sure editing is turned on in your course (Edit Mode – top right hand corner).
  2. Find the section you want to add a sub section to.
  3. Click the ⋮ icon in the top right hand corner and select Add Subsection from menu that appears.
  4. Make sure you section is expanded and you should see a new section (indented) has appeared at the end of your existing section.
