Google Analytics

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a system by Google that allows you to track how users use your website. You can find out how many people are currently looking at your webpage or compare trends over set periods of time.

If you want to know how many people are looking at your Otago Blogs or Podcast site Google Analytics is your best option.

How do I set up Google Analytics?

You’ll find the Google Analytics settings in the Settings section of your Dashboard under Google Analytics. To get started you’ll need to sign up to use Google Analytics – go here to get started: http://www.google.com/analytics/.

Once you have set up an account and followed all the instructions through the setup you will be able to set up tracking codes. A tracking code looks something like: UA-XXXXX-X with all the Xs being numbers. You will need to add the tracking code into the Google Analytics setting page within your Otago Blog or Podcast site:

  • in the Dashboard of your Podcast or Blog site, chose Settings then Google Analytics
  • Paste the site tracking code into the appropriate box
  • Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Once the tracking code is in place wait a few hours for the data to start being collected and then log into Google Analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics/) again to start analysing your data.
