Blackboard Learn upgrade 2023
Blackboard has been moved into the cloud and upgraded to use Ultra Base Navigation. Ultra Base Navigation provides a modern and user-friendly approach to the navigation of Blackboard without changing the Blackboard papers themselves.
What is Ultra Base Navigation?
Ultra Base Navigation (UBN) has a modern design and improves accessibility. The new navigation menu allows you to access papers quickly and makes it easier to find paper updates and notifications. The update to UBN did not include an update to Ultra style papers.
How will the upgrade affect me?
To improve web accessibility for students and staff, the introduction of UBN will standardise the colour of menus inside Blackboard papers. Any papers that use custom menu colours or buttons will revert to a standard menu. There will be no changes to the layout or functionality within Blackboard Papers.
After the upgrade students and staff will have access to use the Blackboard Learn app available from both the iOS and Google Play Stores.
What are the navigation changes?
Open each menu below to see a preview of each change (note: these images are subject to minor changes).
The Home Page contains messages about Blackboard e.g. system updates as well as having links to help pages.
The new profile page gives you the option to clarify the pronunciation of your name through phonetic spelling and audio recording.
The activity stream highlights key events that are coming up today and in the near future, as well as those that have recently passed, for all the papers you are enrolled on. It notifies you about due dates, marks and submissions all in one place.
The papers page helps you organise and personalise your papers list. You can view your papers in tile or list view, find papers using the search tool and favourite papers that you want to always be at the top of the page.
