Excel is commonly used to manipulate spreadsheet data into something meaningful. Looking at the raw data file (a .csv or .txt file) can be quite daunting and look rather messy &#8211; don&#8217;t be put off.<\/p>\n<h3>Resources<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Text-Import-Wizard-c5b02af6-fda1-4440-899f-f78bafe41857?ui=en-US&amp;rs=en-NZ&amp;ad=NZ\">Text Import Wizard<\/a> (Office.com)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Importing text data into Excel<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Make sure you have your raw data downloaded and saved to your computer.<\/li>\n<li>Open Excel and start\u00a0a blank workbook.<\/li>\n<li>Open the\u00a0<em>Data<\/em> tab (along the top ribbon) &#8211; usually you&#8217;ll start on the Home tab.<\/li>\n<li>In the <em>Get Data<\/em> menu, click the\u00a0<em>From Text<\/em> button (you&#8217;ll see other options for importing data files there as well).<\/li>\n<li>Find your raw data file and click\u00a0<em>Get Data<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Select your data type &#8211; if you have a csv file or similar this\u00a0will\u00a0<em>Delimited &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>click\u00a0<em>Next &gt;.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Select your delimiters &#8211; the preview of your data will change so you&#8217;ll know if you&#8217;ve got the right thing. A comma is used for csv files.
