Summary<\/h2>\n

Using the Attendance feature in Moodle you’re able to keep an electronic record of student attendance at various sessions. Once you have set up a session (with a group of students if relevant) you can mark whether a student was present, late, an explained absence or just absent.<\/p>\n

Setting up\u00a0Attendance<\/h2>\n

You may want to set up difference Attendance modules for different things – in Home courses for example you might have different ones for Pathology, Clinical Skills and Integrated Cases to keep things clearer for tutors.<\/p>\n

  1. Log in to Moodle and navigate to your course.<\/li>\n
  2. Make sure\u00a0Edit mode<\/em> is turned on\u00a0(<\/em>Turn editing<\/em>\u00a0on<\/em> – top right hand corner of Moodle).<\/li>\n
  3. Click\u00a0the\u00a0Add an activity or resource<\/em> link in the area where you want the attendance feature to appear.<\/li>\n
  4. Select\u00a0Attendance<\/em> from the list and click\u00a0Add.<\/em><\/li>\n
  5. Give the item a name, description and any other settings that may be important.\n

    1. Think about if students should be able to see the item or not – you can change this in the\u00a0Common Module Settings<\/em> area.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    2. Click\u00a0Save and display\u00a0<\/em>when you’re happy with those settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Creating Sessions<\/h2>\n

      1. Once you have set up Attendance you will need to add sessions – open your Attendance Module by clicking on it.<\/li>\n
      2. Click\u00a0Add session<\/em> from the tabs at the top.<\/li>\n
      3. Select the groups of students that should attend the session (if applicable) and give it a date, time and description. You can also choose to have the session repeat. Click\u00a0Add<\/em> when you’re finished.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Taking Attendance<\/strong><\/h2>\n

        1. Once you have the Attendance module and sessions set up click the Attendance Module to open it up take attendance.<\/li>\n
        2. Find the session you want to take attendance for from and click the status from the\u00a0Status<\/em> column or select\u00a0Take Attendance<\/em> from the menu in the\u00a0Action\u00a0<\/em>column.<\/li>\n
        3. Now set the status for each student – you can use the top row to set the same status for all students and then update the wrong ones to speed things up.<\/li>\n
        4. Once you’re finished click\u00a0Save attendance<\/em> at the bottom of the page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
