{"id":34,"date":"2017-03-28T12:52:19","date_gmt":"2017-03-27T23:52:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/facmed.otago.ac.nz\/moodle\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2023-01-10T12:33:52","modified_gmt":"2023-01-09T23:33:52","slug":"quizzes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.otago.ac.nz\/moodle\/assessing-students\/quizzes\/","title":{"rendered":"Quizzes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p>You can use quizzes to evaluate student knowledge about a topic at the conclusion of a module, or to ascertain basic student understanding before embarking on a new topic.<\/p>\n<h3>Resources<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/401\/en\/Quiz_settings\">Quiz settings<\/a> (Moodle.org)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/401\/en\/Question_types\">Quiz question types<\/a> (Moodle.org)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Creating a quiz<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Login to Moodle.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to where you&#8217;d like the quiz to appear.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure editing is turned on.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<em>Add an activity of resource<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <I>Quiz.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Give the\u00a0<em>Quiz<\/em> a name and any other settings that apply:\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Timing\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; use these settings if you want to limit when students are able to start or take a quiz. Also useful if you want to put a time limit on how long students have to take a quiz.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grade<\/strong> &#8211; use these settings to set a pass mark, number of attempts allowed and which grade to display in the Grade Book (highest, most recent attempt etc).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Layout<\/strong> &#8211; use this setting to set how many questions appear on each page.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Question behaviour<\/strong> &#8211; use these settings to set when feedback appears and if the answers are shuffled or not.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Review options<\/strong> &#8211; use these settings to decide what feedback and grades are given when (during the attempt, after the attempt, when the quiz closes).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Appearance<\/strong> &#8211; use to set the number of decimal places in grades.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extra restrictions on attempts<\/strong> &#8211; use to force a password for the quiz or time delays between attempts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overall feedback<\/strong> &#8211; use these settings to give feedback for defined grade boundaries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Common module settings\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 use these settings to show or hide the assignment, as well as deciding if you need to view the results by groups. Use groupings if you want to limit the submissions\u00a0to a certain set of groups \u2013 say only EPE groups.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Restrict access <\/strong>\u2013 use these settings to restrict access to the quiz based on a rule or set of rules. These rules can be based on activity completion, date, grades, or a setting in the user profile.
