{"id":314,"date":"2017-05-30T11:59:24","date_gmt":"2017-05-29T23:59:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.otago.ac.nz\/moodle\/?page_id=314"},"modified":"2023-01-11T10:55:24","modified_gmt":"2023-01-10T21:55:24","slug":"question-types","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.otago.ac.nz\/moodle\/assessing-students\/quizzes\/question-types\/","title":{"rendered":"Question Types"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p>There are a variety of different question types you can use in a quiz &#8211; these range from simple short answer questions to the very flexible embedded answer type questions (Cloze and Pattern match).<\/p>\n<h3>Resources<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/401\/en\/Question_types\">Question types<\/a> (Moodle.org)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Question types<\/h2>\n<p><strong>All-or-Nothing Multiple Choice &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0Allows the selection of multiple responses from a pre-defined list and uses all-or-nothing grading (100% or 0%).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Calculated &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Calculated questions are like numerical questions but with the numbers used selected randomly from a set when the quiz is taken.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Calculated multichoice<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0Calculated multichoice questions are like multichoice questions which choice elements can include formula results from numeric values that are selected randomly from a set when the quiz is taken.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Combined<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0A combined question type which allows the embedding of the response fields for various available sub questions in the question text.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_17_2_1_1494904188692_1211\">Depending on which question types you have installed, the student can enter a numeric or short text answer or choose an answer or answers using a select box or check boxes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drag and drop into text\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Missing words in the question text are filled in using drag and drop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drag and drop markers\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Markers are dragged and dropped onto a background image.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drag and drop onto image\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Images or text labels are dragged and dropped into drop zones on a background image.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drag and Drop Matching<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0An extension of the matching question that allows the user to drag and drop items to match answers to subquestions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Embedded Answers (Cloze)<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0Questions of this type are very flexible, but can only be created by entering text containing special codes that create embedded multiple-choice, short answers and numerical questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essay\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Allows a response of a few sentences or paragraphs. This must then be graded manually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freehand Drawing (ETH)<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0In response to a question the respondent draws an answer on an predefined image. There is only one right answer possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gapfill\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0A fill in the gaps style question.
