<\/p>\nGrade Items<\/em> are typically grouped into\u00a0Categories<\/em> within the\u00a0Gradebook.\u00a0<\/em>This often means you can release grades more efficiently by making an entire\u00a0Category<\/em> visible at once instead of an individual student or activity. This applies only to the\u00a0Gradebook<\/em> side of things.\u00a0Quizzes\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Assignments with marking workflow<\/em> still need to be released individually. See Gradebook Visibility<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0below.<\/p>\n

Quizzes<\/em> can be identified in the Gradebook<\/em> with the icon below. Releasing quiz marks starts in the quiz Settings.\u00a0<\/em>Review options<\/em> must be set appropriately, and the quiz must not be\u00a0Hidden<\/em> by restrictions under\u00a0Restrict access,<\/em> or on the course page.<\/p>\n

Activity Visibility<\/h2>\n
All\u00a0Activities<\/em> (i.e. Quizzes\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Assignments<\/em>) must be\u00a0Visible<\/em>\u00a0to students in order for their grade to show in the\u00a0Gradebook.<\/em>\u00a0Here are the steps to achieve this.<\/p>\n

- Open the activity and switch to the\u00a0Settings<\/em> tab.<\/li>\n
- Scroll to the\u00a0Common module settings<\/em> tab.<\/li>\n
- Ensure\u00a0Hide on course page<\/em> is\u00a0not<\/strong> selected under\u00a0Availability.

- If there are any restrictions\u00a0that\u00a0currently<\/b>\u00a0prevent the students from seeing the quiz\u00a0<\/strong>(crossed out\u00a0Eye<\/em> icon), contact an eLearning facilitator as this will also prevent them from seeing their grade.

Gradebook Visibility<\/h2>\n
All grade items can have their visibility controlled to some extent through the\u00a0Gradebook.<\/em> For\u00a0Assignments without marking workflow<\/em> and\u00a0Manual Grade Items,<\/em> this is the primary means of control.\u00a0Manual Grade Items<\/em> can be identified in the Gradebook\u00a0<\/em>by one of the two icons below:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\nTo change the visibility of your gradebook, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n

- Login to Moodle and navigate to the course you\u2019re interested in.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
- Switch to the Grades <\/em>tab and select Grader report<\/em>\u00a0from the blue drop down menu.<\/li>\n
- Ensure\u00a0Edit mode<\/em> is turned on with the toggle at the top right corner.<\/li>\n
- Filter the applicable student group.<\/li>\n
- You can control grade visibility using the\u00a0three dots beside the column headings<\/em> like below:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

- The\u00a0three dots <\/em>beside the Course Title<\/em>\u00a0(Kavan\u2019s Testing Course in this example)<\/em> will show or hide all students’ grades in the course.<\/li>\n
- The\u00a0three dots <\/em>under\u00a0OSCEs<\/em> will show or hide all students’ grades for the grade items in\u00a0OSCEs, i.e. OSCE1 and OSCE2 in this example.<\/em><\/li>\n
- The\u00a0three dots <\/em>in the test for GP<\/em> row will show or hide all students’ grades for that grade item.<\/li>\n
- The\u00a0three dots <\/em>next to specific grades will show or hide only that grade item for that student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

<\/a><\/p>\nNotice that there is no\u00a0Eye<\/em> in the rows for the activities titled\u00a0Quiz test, Skills 3 Quiz 2 copy, or Skills_3_Quiz 2.\u00a0<\/em>These are all\u00a0Quizzes\u00a0<\/em>so their visibility should be controlled via the steps described in the\u00a0Quizzes<\/strong><\/a> section.<\/p>\n
If a grade item is has an eye with a slash in it, it can mean the activity is not visible to students and they will not be able to see their grade. See Activity Visibility <\/a><\/strong>for more detail.\u00a0If the hidden grade item is a\u00a0Quiz,\u00a0<\/em>it may also be because the marks aren’t available in the activity settings. See\u00a0Quizzes<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
How to hide all grades on a freshly rolled over course<\/h2>\n
This is an important part of course rollover<\/strong> – make sure this is completed before the first run of the year!<\/p>\n
