Windows 7 – How to set up speakers and microphone

Click on Control Panel  in the Start menu

The Control Panel window will appear

Select  Sound (or  Hardware and Sound  then  Sound depending on your view settings)

How to Change Sound Playback Options 

Select the Playback tab in the Sound window 

Select your headset or the speakers/headphones you wish to use

(If your headset or speakers/headphones are not showing, then close the Sound window, ensure you have plugged them in correctly, then re-open the Sound window. If they are still not showing you may need to install the applicable driver which will be on a disk which came with the headset/speakers/headphones or can usually be found on the manufacturer’s website)

If your headset/speakers/headphones do not have a tick beside them (to confirm they are the default device) then set this by clicking Set Default towards the bottom of the window

Now click Properties

In the Properties window, check Use this device (enable) is selected in the Device Usage drop-down menu

Select the Levels tab

Ensure that your headset/speakers/headphones volume is high enough and are not muted (headset microphone should be muted)

Click OK

How to Change Recording Options

In the Sound window, under the Recording tab

Select the microphone you wish to use (e.g. headset microphone). If your microphone does not have a tick beside it (to confirm it is the default device) then set this by clicking Set Default towards the bottom of the window

Click Properties

In the Properties window, ensure Use this device (enable) is selected in the Devise Usage drop-down menu

Select the Levels tab

Ensure that the microphone volume is set high or at maximum and is not muted

If microphone boost is showing, set this to minimum to disable it

Click OK

Under Custom tab, uncheck AGC (if it is checked)

Click OK

On the Sound window click Apply (to confirm any changes)

Click OK

Close Control Panel 

Finally, go to Otago Connect Audio Setup meeting room, log in and complete the Audio Setup Wizard
