I can’t login to Blackboard
If you can’t log into Blackboard, you usually have one of three problems:
You try to go to the Blackboard login page, but get a “File Not Found” or “Server not found” error.
This problem is caused by going to http://www.blackboard.otago.ac.nz. There is no “www” in Blackboard’s url – the correct address is:
https://blackboard.otago.ac.nz
You try to login to Blackboard using your username and password, but get one of the following error messages:
Could not login. Valid authentication credentials were not provided.
If you get this error message, please check:
- Your username:
Check that you are using the correct university username – the same one that you use for the Staff Web Kiosk and Performer. It usually consists of the first three letters of your last name, the first two letters of your first name, two numbers, and the letter “p”. If you are an “external/student” user (not on the University payroll), your username will have three numbers on the end, and no “p”. - Your password:
Your password was initially allocated to you when you received your staff username. If you are sure that you have the correct username, but can’t remember your password, contact the HelpDesk (extn 8888).
If you are sure your details are correct, it may mean that…
- None of your papers have Blackboard sites
If you aren’t “attached” to an existing Blackboard paper as a staff member (with Instructor, TA, Course Builder or Grader access) or student, then you won’t be able to access Blackboard at all. If you are involved in the teaching of a paper that’s on Blackboard, and you think you should have access, then contact the Paper Coordinator to see if they’ve requested access rights for you. If they’ve already done this, or you are the Paper Coordinator, please contact the HelpDesk (extn. 8888). Remember that during busy periods it will take a few days to process and action access requests.
