SafeAssign Integrated with Assignments

Summary

This page contains information about Assignments with SafeAssign created after the Blackboard upgrade of 6 & 7 December 2014.  If you still have the old-style “SafeAssignments” in your paper, please refer to the legacy SafeAssignments page.

To comply with the University guidelines, you will need to add two Assignments – one to act as a draft, where the students can read the SafeAssign report; and then a final submission, where students can’t read the SafeAssign report (but staff can).

Reminder: SafeAssign can take up to 48 hours to process a report during peak assessment times (worldwide).

Setting up a Draft Assignment with SafeAssign checking

  • Log into Blackboard and access your paper
  • Open the content area you wish to use (i.e Assignments, Course Documents)
  • In the “Assessment” menu, choose “Assignment”
  • Give your Draft Assignment a name (for example – Essay 1 Draft)
  • Expand the “Submission Details” section by clicking on the link
  • In the “Number of Attempts” choose “Single Attempt”
  • Tick the boxes beside the following:
    1. Check submissions for plagiarism using SafeAssign
    2. Allow students to view SafeAssign originality report for their attempts
    3. Exclude submissions. This is important as it ensures their final submission won’t match with their draft.
  • Set any other parameters you want to also include with your assignment
  • Click Submit.

Setting up a Final Submission Assignment with SafeAssign checking

  • Log into Blackboard and access your course

  • In the “Number of Attempts” choose “Single Attempt”
  • Tick the box beside the following:
    1. Check submissions for plagiarism using SafeAssign
  • Ensure the boxes beside the following are left un-ticked:
    1. Allow students to view SafeAssign originality report for their attempts
    2. Exclude submissions
  • Set any other parameters you want to also include with your assignment
  • Click Submit.
